No Reader required

This 2nd Generation USB model has all the features of the standard LogTag without the need to buy a LogTag Interface. 

To configure the logger, or retrieve the data, you can simply plug the LogTag directly into a USB port on your PC.

Automatic PDF of your report

This USB LogTag has an extra party trick that older models don’t. When you plug it into the USB port on your computer, it opens a folder – similar to a USB memory stick. In that folder is a PDF copy of the data report.

This means that data reports can be read on any computer using just a PDF reader such as Acrobat.

The automatically generated PDF make this an ideal logger for tracking cold chain transport.

Pack a USB LogTag with your goods and the receiver can plug it into any PC (no software needed) and download the report.

Pre-configuration

Before you can start using a new logger, you will need to configure it with all the settings appropriate to what you are logging.

This is not difficult, and we have instructions on how to do it on this website, but if you would prefer us to do it for you, that service is available at a small cost.

We can pre-configure your LogTag with our recommended settings for:

  • vaccine refrigerators (2° to 8°C),
  • food refrigerators (0° to 5°C), or
  • food freezers (-30° to -10°C).

This means, all you will need to do when you receive your LogTag, is press the Start button and place it in the environment to be monitored.

Latency explained

What is latency?

Latency, when it comes to temperature logging, refers to the delay between a change in temperature and when that change is detected and recorded by the logger. This delay can be due to the sensor’s design, the materials it’s placed in, or the logging interval. While it might sound like a disadvantage, latency can actually serve a useful purpose in certain environments—particularly where short-term temperature spikes are common but not harmful.

For example, in a busy commercial fridge, the temperature may briefly rise every time the door is opened. A logger with high latency won’t immediately react to these short fluctuations, helping to avoid unnecessary alarms or false data indicating a problem when there isn’t one. In these cases, a slight delay in response acts like a filter, focusing attention on real issues—such as prolonged exposure to unsafe temperatures—while ignoring the everyday ups and downs that don’t affect product quality or safety.

Depending on the type of logger you have, connecting your logger to your PC means either:

  • inserting into the Reader,
  • plugging it into a USB port, or
  • connecting it via a USB cable.

What's so good about USB?

First Generation LogTags use a separate Reader (sometimes called a dock) for configuration and for downloading recorded data. 

The Second Generation loggers only require a USB port or cable. Apart from saving the cost of the Reader, this makes them much better suited for shipping, because the recipient doesn’t need a LogTag Reader to download a report about the shipment’s journey.
